On February 07, 2013, an all-male rock band, Ruzkaya, was hailed as the 2013 Battle of the Bands champion held at the Patio of the Trinity University of Asia (TUA) in Quezon City. This is also in time for TUA’s 50th Founding Anniversary.
Ruzkaya “outplayed” and “outrocked” 8 other collegiate rock bands (which were all really good!) and brought home the most coveted title with their covers of Queen’s “I Want to Break Free”, Sampaguita’s “Nosi Balasi”, and their original composition entitled, “Sino.”
This 5-man band also bagged the “People’s Choice Award.” Since this is a collegiate competition, they were able to sell the most number of tickets for the “Rock of Ages”, the 2013 Battle of the Bands label for TUA.The mechanics for this competition is pretty simple: Contestants were to perform 3 songs, 2 covers and 1 original composition.
The runner-ups were Parokya ni Mang Kanor for the 3rd place, and Juliana for the second place.TUA’s 2013 Battle of the Bands were also graced by mainstream bands such as Mayonaise, Paraluman (Waving to my friend Jimbo Cuenco, drummer! Thanks for coming to us last night to say hi!) and Circa.
Ruzkaya is composed of Kurt Pastorfide (Vocals 1), Justine Tan (Vocals 2), Job Viernes (Lead Guitar), Franz Herrera (Bassist) and Kevin Garcia (Drums). Why such support for Ruzkaya? Because the last band member’s name is family.
We arrived to show support to my youngest brother who is Ruzkaya’s drummer. It’s been quite a long time since I last heard my brother played drums. He really made a lot of improvement which makes everyone in our family very proud.
Congratulations, Ruzkaya Band for being TUA’s “Golden Band.” It was indeed a momentous time in your band’s journey. You all really did a great job last night when I heard you play! I’m looking forward to hearing you jam again soon. Kudos to my brother, Kevin!
I’m officially a stage sister. :p This is my way of supporting my brother’s passion. Our pagpupuyat last night was worth all the wait. Even Noa stayed up all night long to support you, Tito Kev! 🙂
Most of them are graduating students (including my brother) by the end of this school year so I’m not sure if they already accepting gigs. Anyhow, please find in your heart to support them in one way or another. Please like them on Facebook to know more about them and their music.
