When’s the last time you did something for the first time?
This is probably the most daring event I’ve attended this year. That morning before leaving our home for Polecats Manila to try Pole Dancing for the first time, I kept on convincing myself that I really signed up for this, and there’s no turning back!
What was I thinking? For a 20-ish mother of a 2-year-old girl, who has no formal ballet or gymnastics background, and even has sweaty palms, is Pole Dancing really for me?
I felt the urge to go out of my comfort zone, and see how far can I go for what is so-called, “healthy living” through exercise. I told myself to give Pole Dancing a shot.
For newbie pole dancers like us, it is very important to be prepared physically in case you want to try this sultry form of dance. According to our instructor, Christine Dy, she recommends Pole Dancing for ages 18 and up. Don’t worry because at Polecats Manila, they will let you answer a questionnaire first to assess your physical stability and condition before engaging into Pole Dancing.
Here are some of my first-hand tips to consider as you challenge yourself to dance ala Carmen Electra, or Ciara Sotto.
- Be sure not to put on lotion. The more skin contact against the pole, the better.
- Be in your most comfortable short shorts and sports bra/top.
- Save your hearty meal an hour before you start pole dancing to make sure that you don’t feel bloated. If your pole dancing schedule is at 9AM, be sure to finish eating your food by 8AM.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! 🙂
- In case you have sweaty palms, gymnastic chalk will do the trick to avoid grip slipping. You may also want to bring an alcohol and a piece of cloth to wipe the pole dry.
